Lake Tahoe Shakespeare tickets now on sale

Capturing the spirit of summer in Reno-Tahoe, tickets for the 2009 Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, slated July 11 – Aug. 23, 2009, are now available for online purchase at www.LakeTahoeShakespeare.com. Celebrating its 37th season, the festival brings summer audiences the comedy of Shakespeare’s deliciously scandalous “Measure for Measure,” the hilariously scheming duos of “Much Ado About Nothing” and the premiere of a world music concert series featuring rotating artists each Monday night. As a special “Early Bard” offer, patrons who purchase a minimum of two tickets for the festival’s July 11 – 31 performances before Jan. 31 qualify for first purchasing rights to the ever-popular full moon performance Aug. 6, and final curtain performances of the plays, Aug. 22 – 23.

“The summer season comes alive with the festival that serves as a cornerstone of summer events at Lake Tahoe,” said Catherine Atack, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. “The festival provides audiences the unique combination of a stunning lakeside location, gourmet food and drink services provided by Shakespeare’s Kitchen and performances seven nights a week throughout the six-week schedule. Focusing on the rich humor of this season’s comedic performances, our hope is to provide festival-goers with a lighthearted escape and a refreshing outdoor setting to spend time recharging with friends and family. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal fans and introducing first-timers to the magic that is summer at the lake.”

An established source of entertainment for residents and visitors in the Reno-Tahoe area, the festival aims to educate audiences on theatre and the arts while supporting and utilizing the region’s talent base. One of the largest and more established nonprofit agencies within the Parasol Community Collaboration (PCC), a collaboration of more than 50 nonprofit entities, the festival is committed to encouraging volunteerism and community involvement within the organization.

Tickets are now available online at www.LakeTahoeShakespeare.com or by calling 800-74-SHOWS (800-747-4697). Incline High School 25th Annual Crab Feed

January 26, 2009

Silver and green are the colors of this year’s Annual Crab and Pasta Feed — silver because it is the 25th anniversary of the event and green because it is going to be a zero waste event.

The 25th annual Crab and Pasta Feed — a fundraiser for Incline High School Boosters — will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the North Tahoe Events Center (formerly known as the conference center).

Tickets went on sale Monday at The Potlatch. They can also be purchased by contacting Kathy Long at 833-1429 or kathyklong@yahoo.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Tickets are $50 per person or $400 for a table of eight.

There are 400 tickets available and the crab feed usually sells out, Long said.

The Boosters are hoping the poor economy this year will not make the 25th anniversary an exception to its sell out history.

“It is the one big fundraiser for the school, so I hope people will still be able to support it,” Long said.

The Boosters support programs at the high school such as athletics, drama, music, art and JROTC, among others, said Boosters vice-president Tia Rancourt.

“It is the only fundraiser,” Rancourt said, adding that last year the crab feed raised $44,000 for school activities and programs.

Doors open at 5 p.m., so participants can socialize and bid on the silent auction and view the items for the live auction. Raffle tickets are also sold and the Incline High School Jazz Band will be performing.

Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and includes all-you-can-eat pasta, bread, salad and, most of all, crab. Dessert tops off the dinner that will leave no one hungry. Incline High School seniors wait on the tables to earn tips for their senior trip and graduation.

Linda Offerdahl is in charge of auction items, so if you or a business have an item you would like to donate, please call her at 832-7275 or e-mail at Linda@offerdahl.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Some of the auction items can be viewed and bid on before Feb. 7 by visiting www.purplewave.com/cgi-bin/pwdetails.cgi?090207 and looking for the Feb. 7 Crab Feed event. Bids can be placed online until 6 p.m. Feb. 7.

The Boosters reported in the IHS Newsletter: “With the funds generated at this extraordinary community event, the Boosters are able to meet their mission of “Benefiting more than one student for more than one year.”

According to the National Weather Service, snow will be falling at Lake Tahoe by Saturday night and continue through Tuesday. The heaviest weather will come on Sunday, when the National Weather Service says there is a 90 percent chance of snow.

Coming after four dry weeks of winter, the storm is good news indeed to ski areas, skiers and drought worriers.

Tough Decisions For Incline Village Championship Golf Course

Tough decisions needed for Championship Golf Course
Written by Tanya Canino Thursday, January 08 2009 11:05 PM

A divine dose of wisdom could be needed for the Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees, who will be scrutinizing a revised business plan for the Championship Golf Course on Wednesday.

“I’m trying to get them to play Solomon,” said IVGID General Manager Bill Horn.

As King Solomon had difficult choices to make in the biblical story, so does the IVGID board when it comes to operation of the Championship Golf Course.

“There’s some policy issues,” Horn said.

At stake is the amount of playing time for members of Incline’s golf clubs.

Maintenance issues for the grounds, non-resident allocations and merchandise discounts, were also among the many issues presented when the board discussed a previous version of a revised business plan at the trustees’ November meeting.

What is decided could likely affect the recreation fee as well.

From last summer’s statistical tracking, there are five golf clubs with a total of 486 members, and there are 2,260 resident golfers, Horn said. Resident golfers - including golf club and non-golf club members - are allocated 68 percent of the playing time on the course, while non-residents are currently allocated 32 percent of the playing time, Horn said.

Horn plans to present a few different options for the Championship Golf Course at the IVGID Board of Trustees’ meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the IVGID Administrative Offices, 893 Southwood Boulevard.

Those include options that will give members of the golf clubs more playing time on the course; an option to give all residents equal access to the Championship Golf Course; an option that cuts expenses by drastically reducing service levels; and an option to reserve the golf course on Wednesday for tournament play by members of the golf clubs.

IVGID Trustee Gene Brockman said he didn’t think a resolution could be found during Wednesday’s board meeting.

“From my perspective, we’re not at that point yet,” Brockman said, adding that there are many facets to this complicated issue.

However, one ground rule to any debate is that IVGID’s recreation facilities are operated primarily for its residents, Brockman said. That has been reaffirmed in many board discussions and workshops.

Giving golf club members more playing time was broached last summer. After the board approved a business plan last May for the Championship Golf Course, there were complaints by members of Incline’s golf clubs. Trustees Chuck Weinberger, Bea Epstein and Brockman asked for a new business plan, Horn said
